What To Take into Consideration When Picking Blinds vs. Curtains

Did you just move into a new house or are you simply just ready for a window treatment update? At Carmen’s Custom Window Treatment, we’ve seen it all and know exactly how you may be feeling. You may be feeling confused and frustrated when it comes to finding the perfect window treatment. There are so many different types and they all serve different purposes. So which one do you pick, curtains or blinds? Here are the benefits and disadvantages of owning each in your home:

Blinds

Blinds are definitely the most cost-effective option. This is because there are fewer materials and installation is quick and easy. Installation costs run around the same price no matter what, but the real cost difference comes from the materials. If you purchase plastic blinds, you will be saving the most money whereas wood or vinyl blinds will typically cost you much more money.

Blinds are also much easier to clean than curtains! With blinds, all you need is a microfiber towel and about 20 minutes! This can be done with your regular dusting and cleaning and does not take up much time or effort at all.

One place where blinds lack is insulation. Blinds will not offer you much insulation during the winter months. However, in summer, blinds are more energy efficient by keeping the hot sun rays out! This can save you lots of money on your air conditioning.

Curtains

Curtains are usually more expensive than blinds because the material is of higher quality and the installation process is more difficult. It can take a professional about 10 minutes to install blinds while it can take between one to two hours to install curtains.

Cleaning curtains is much more difficult because you will have to completely remove the fabric and either machine wash it or send it to the dry cleaners.

Curtains are much better for insulation and soundproofing. Having curtains on your windows can reduce heat loss during winter by up to 40%! This also means saving money. Curtains are also great for people who live on busy streets or high traffic areas because they are amazing sound proofers!

Lastly, curtains are way more customizable than blinds, so if you are someone who highly values interior decorating, curtains are the way to go.

Both curtains and blinds have great advantages, so why not just get both and reap all the benefits? Contact Carmen's Custom Window Treatment today for a consultation!
