Window Treatment Design Trend Forecast

Window treatments are a functional, yet fashionable way to add personality to the interior of your home.  Window treatments provide privacy, allow (or prevent) sunlight from entering a room, and can help keep the cold weather out, all while making a statement that you choose.  So, what’s new and trending in the world of window treatments? Check out this list of window treatment trends compiled from several window treatment and interior design experts.

Shutters and Blinds

Plantation shutters, such as the ones pictured, are an easy to operate option to add character and elegance into a room.  There are many features and options to choose from such as wood or faux wood, moisture resistant, light control, and insulated options.  Keep in mind that wood shutters are not recommended for use in high-moisture areas, but composite shutters are an excellent choice due to their ability to resist moisture, warping and staining.

There are also endless options for blinds.  Like shutters, blinds can be wood, faux wood that is embossed to look like real wood, and vinyl.  You can also personalize the orientation of your blinds to be horizontal or vertical, and choose corded, cordless, or motorized.

Roman and Roller Shades

Roller shades are increasing in popularity due to the wide variety of colors and transparencies available.  The clean and simple trend in window treatments has left people opting for simple items such as shutters and shades.

Roman shades are a classic and timeless choice for letting light in, while allowing privacy.  Their clean cut lines make them a perfect fit for modern interiors. Try adding a decorative trim to your custom window treatments for a clean, yet personalized look.

Hardware

Hardware is a small, but important element not to be forgotten when choosing and designing your window treatments.  Hardware can bring an entire look together, or add another level of style to the design without even touching the window treatments themselves.  Accented finials, tie backs, and rods are trending, as well as metal hardware.

Motorized curtains

Technology

Homes are getting smarter, and window treatments are included.  How would you like to be able to open or close your blinds while sitting on the sofa or from another room? Automated and motorized options are increasing in popularity due to their convenience and safety.  Cordless blinds and shades are quickly becoming the standard due to the dangers of corded blinds.
