Interior Design Trends for 2020

As we move swiftly through the month of December, we ready ourselves to enter not just a new year but a whole new decade. Say goodbye to the 2010s and hello to the return of the roaring 20s! As with any year, 2020 brings with it new design trends and styles to keep up with and add some spice to your home or office.

Art Deco neutral colored pattern

Art Deco

Yes, art deco is back. This is due mostly to the romanticized nature of the 1920’s and a desire to return to the classic look of that era. For your window treatments this means lots of golds and blacks, sparkly and geometrical patterns. While art deco spoke mostly to architecture, furniture, and fashion, it can definitely bleed over into just about anything you can throw a pattern on, including your curtains.

Bold Designs

Speaking of patterns, art deco isn’t the only loud design element that people are bringing into their homes this year. People are using big patterns on everything from wallpaper to tile to furniture so don’t be afraid to get a bright floral pattern for your drapery to make a statement in your space.

Lots of Color

In past years, the trend in colors has been toward more neutrals and less bright, rich colors. If you’re not feeling the patterned look this year, maybe try something in bright yellow or coral or you could even go darker with Sherwin Williams color of the year Naval, a deep navy blue. If you’re feeling particularly bold, black is also a popular choice for the coming year, just make sure you use it sparingly or you could end up in a cave.

Bamboo shades

Natural Materials

Many people are leaning towards a return to natural elements in their home, both out of a desire for more eco-friendly designs and a more rustic and natural space. Light-weight hemp linens, woven bamboo shades, and wooden blinds are all popular choices for the next year.

Technological Advancements

We mentioned it last year but it certainly bears repeating as new technology is introduced almost every day. Smart technology has given us the ability to close blinds and shades without even having to get off the couch, which provides a host of benefits from energy efficiency to security. Additionally, most of these smart products are cordless, improving them for child and pet safety.
