Best Curtain Colors for Fall

AS the autumn evenings begin to draw in, so we find ourselves closing our curtains earlier and earlier.

But just as the fall view just outside our windows begins to take on rich shades and hues of crisp colors as leaves start changing, so it is a great time to be inspired by Mother Nature with our choice of window dressings and treatments.

Indeed – the very changing of the season creates such beautiful sights one could think of our window treatments as a frame on a work of art provided by nature.

As the chlorophyll recedes and the carotenes in the leaves give us ochres, crimsons, browns, ambers, yellows, and oranges so we can bring those beautiful autumnal colors into our homes and add a dash of the season to our décor.

The most well-known of the fall colors is – of course – orange, tied as it is to pumpkins used for both Hallowe’en and Thanksgiving.

The bright color is a perfect choice for new curtains to bring brightness to a room on otherwise dark evenings, whether as a bold statement color or used as a fun accent to the more sober fall colors of browns.

Orange acts as a focal point and provides warmth to a room, as it also reflects the light of a flaming log fire.

But when blended in with the brown and crimson shades, it creates a powerful reflection of the natural world and suggests the landscape outside brought indoors. If your home features materials such as wood and stone in its structure, the effect will be compounded magnificently.

And if the darker shades need a further brightening contrast, the oranges can be complemented with some dashes of yellows to lighten the tone.

These colors work well on their own but can bring patterns to life – and again nature provides. Curtains and drapes featuring organic motifs – especially leaves and trees – are ripe to bring a whole new look to your room.

So even as you finally draw your curtains to keep the night out, the art provided by Mother Nature continues on in your room with fabrics inspired by her works.

Autumnal shades and patterns can work in every room of your home, from grand sweeping gestures in the living room to more organic suggestions in the kitchen and dining rooms, reflecting the bounties of the yearly harvests that come with the changing of the season.

And bedrooms bask in the warmth and suggestions of comfort and retreat heralded by the approaching end of the year.

Window treatments do not just have to stop with the fall colors in the fabrics – throughout the history of art people have been inspired by the natural world and some of the best sculptures feature leaves and branches. There are many window treatments that build on this background and incorporate these concepts, such as curtain pole finials and hooks and tiebacks.

As you look forward to enjoying the season that is fall, take full advantage of its natural inspiration and bring its delights indoors.

On the other hand, when orange is used in combination with other colors that are similar to it such as shades of brown and orange, it tends to blend in and lend the rest of the décor some of its warmth. You can take advantage of that and use orange curtains in combination with other natural colors and materials. {found on casawasy}.

The orange and brown combination is a very successful one, being very suggestive of the décor and ambiance that autumn sets on the landscape. Bring these two colors into your home and use them to create a comfortable and cozy ambiance. It helps if natural materials such as wood or stone are part of the design. {found on elementalarchitecture}.

Try to use a combination of bright and dark colors in order to create a pleasant balance in the room. A dark orange shade on the curtains can be what keeps the décor together while vibrant touches of yellow here and there can add a burst of energy. {found on amwdesignstudio}.

For a fresh and balanced décor, add a contrasting color to the mix as well. For example, a bedroom that has vibrant orange curtains can also include shades of white, beige, brown, and a little bit of turquoise, just so there’s a hint of something different. Such a combination works regardless of the size of the room and can also suit guest bedrooms.

A large social area infused with tones of brown, beige, and green or yellow could use an accent color such as orange. In this case, the focal point comes in the form of full-height curtains that cover up both the clerestory windows and the sliding doors. Their color seamlessly incorporates them into the décor but not without offering them a lot of charm and character. {found on jsbrowndesign}.

You can also add a hint of autumn beauty to your home through patterns. Curtains that have leaves printed on them and feature colors such as orange, yellow and brown can be strongly indicative of the type of ambiance you’re trying to create and this strategy can work really well in the case of home offices.
