What you Need to Know About Drapery

When you are beginning to shop around for drapery, you will notice there are many different styles and patterns of the fabric. These are called pleat styles. Pleat styles don’t refer to the colors and shapes that appear on the fabric, but how exactly the fabric is sewn and worked to create fullness. Here are a few examples of drapery pleating:

Tan curtains

Flat or Plain Pleat

This is the basic and standard type of drapery pleating. This is where the hooks are connected to a hoop that is on the back of the drapery panel and hung up. The panel will hang flat with no extra fullness or sewing.

Rod Pocket Pleat

Another extremely common type of pleating is the rod pocket, and this is exactly what it sounds like. There is a pocket on the top of the panel that you push the rod through to hang up your drapery. If you are looking for drapery that is simple to hang but still looks classy, the rod pocket pleat is it!

The Pinch Pleat

The pinch pleating style can come in different varieties and sizes which are often referred to as “one pinch pleat”, “two pinch pleat”, and “three pinch pleat”. The difference between these is how thick the “pinch” or bunching of the fabric will be. The pinch pleat drapes look incredibly classy and sleek.

Grommet Top Pleat

Grommet top pleating is another popular style for drapery. This is where there are circle-shaped holes with metallic lining directly in the top of the panel. You will push the curtain rod through these holes with the folds all facing away from the window. The Grommet top pleating almost completely covers up the curtain rod if you are one of the people who hate to see the rod poking through.

Inverted Pleat

The inverted pleating style is another classy and sophisticated style of drapery. This is the type of drapery you would see in a luxury sitting room or dining room. It has an almost accordion look that makes the drapery look so much fuller and more expensive.
